Liz O'Donnell

Liz was born in Dublin, educated at Trinity College Law School and was a senior member of the Progressive Democrats. Prior to being elected to Dáil Éireann in 1992, Liz was vice chair of the Women’s Political Association and delegate to the Council for the Status of Women.

She also worked on the Presidential election of Mary Robinson as a volunteer. In 1997 Liz was appointed Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and joined the Irish Government’s negotiating team along with Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Minister David Andrews to the multiparty talks, leading to the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.

Liz said that the Northern Ireland Women’s Coalition ‘demonstrated that all issues are women’s issues and that without women’s voices our democracy is incomplete’.
