Derry Peace Women

Following Bloody Sunday and the murder of a Derry-born Catholic soldier in 1972, five women from the Bogside and Creggan areas – Eileen Semple, Margaret Doherty, Mary Barr, Kathleen Doherty, and Harriet Hippsley – were motivated to found the Derry Peace Women (as they were known locally).

Margaret, whose brother had been killed on Bloody Sunday, was determined that his death would not be used as the motive for further violence.
