Religious Women and the Peace Process

Often working at the margins of society, religious women were influential within working-class areas. A quiet spiritual presence, reinforced by institutional resources and a degree of authority, they rebuked brutality and supported the non-violent majority’s struggle to survive. Largely missing from the history of the Troubles, these women of different persuasions and denominations built and were part of networks of community activists determined to secure peace.
