The 1990s would mark an end to The Troubles after a period of increasing violence and a number of ceasefires.
After two ceasefires that saw bombings and periods of instability, talks between Northern Ireland's main political parties started leading to the Good Friday Agreement of 1998.
Although largely representative of men, the role of women in the talks was substantial, not least by the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition.
The Agreement brought a power-sharing self-government to Northern Ireland.
